Xingu Fishing Report 2022 Week 5: October 15 to 22

We started the week with high water levels and good fishing conditions for the week. We received a visit from a group of eight Argentine fishermen who, with good humor and excellent predisposition, enjoyed the trip of their dreams. 

Weather: As the rainy season hit our doors, the storms were very frequent, usually in the evenings and for short periods of time. 

Temperature: The temperature this week was between 28º and 34º, descending on a few nights, to a gradual 24 and 26 at night. 

Water Temperature: 28º C 

Xingu River Conditions: The water level of the Xingu River is rising. Tributaries and little creeks are changing color, also impacted by water level change. 

Fishing Conditions: 

Payara fishing was a lot better this week, with the fish becoming more active and aggressive. Most of the fish we caught were in big pools and deep water. We used our usual sinking lines (400 - 500 grain, 7 ips) and big, nasty tube flies with trailer hooks. We like using those flies with wiggle tails as well, in black and purple, and black and red. We had good action on top water for peacocks and matrinxãs. Some days, we even had pacus eat on the surface.

Highlight of the Week: 

The number of fish caught this week was surprising, of course, but we have to highlight a beautiful payara that Hugo landed. This fish was stunning, and it measured at 98 cm. and weighed about 10 kg., which made it a real beast. To not highlight the perseverance and positive attitude of the whole group would be wrong. These guys were always open to the new experiences, techniques, and species that the remarkable Xingu River has to offer those who are lucky enough to visit.
