Epic Payara Battles, Kayapo Adventures, and 350+ Catches in Week 03! Fishing Report for Xingu Lodge – Season 2024, Week 03: November 16th–23rd

Weather Conditions

The Xingu River roared to life this week with the onset of the rainy season. Daily storms brought intense energy to the Amazon, pushing temperatures to highs of 32–34ºC (89–93ºF) and cooling to 26–28ºC (78–82ºF) at night. While the river levels are rising, the adventure is only growing wilder.

River Conditions

The rising waters altered the fishing game, presenting fresh challenges for our anglers. The clarity shifted, revealing an ever-changing tapestry of deep pools and shallow runs. These conditions demanded sharp instincts and adaptability, making every cast a calculated risk in this untouched, primal Amazonian frontier.

The Week in Fishing

This week was a masterclass in perseverance. The elusive Payara proved their name by retreating to deeper waters, but the Xingu rewarded persistence with epic moments. An unexpected migration of baitfish ignited a frenzy near the lodge, with Bicudas and Payara crashing the surface in shallow pools—turning the water into a chaotic battlefield.

Matrinxã brought their own excitement, schooling near the shores and striking fruit and dry flies with vigor. Meanwhile, Peacock Bass and Wolffish remained less active, as they transitioned into the rising waters of nearby streams—a hallmark of the season.
